It is with great sadness that the Friends of the Musketawa Trail board informs you that longtime board president, Ed Holovka, passed away peacefully this week on Tuesday (10/8/19). Ed served as a model board president and volunteer for over 20 years, stepping down as president just over 2 years ago.
Ed was passionate about the trails and started his duties at a time when the West Michigan trails movement was in its infancy. Ed helped lead the Friends group through many trail projects including getting some of the old railroad trestles decked for trail usage, constructing some of the observation decks along the trail and a variety of other projects and enhancements. Ed leaves a strong legacy of volunteer commitment to something he loved. Ed’s favorite location along the Musketawa Trail (that he “adopted”) was the Muskegon trail head on Broadway where he visited to plant trees and clean-up.
Ed will be greatly missed by many. Please keep Ed’s wife Diana, his family and his friends in your thoughts.
Ed’s obituary and service information can be found here:

Ed’s wife, Diana Holovka (and our board treasurer), wanted to share the following with our friends, supporters and fellow trail users: “I want to thank everyone for their memorial donations on behalf of Edward Holovka. Your kind words were much appreciated. I hope I didn’t miss sending a “thank you” to each of you but if I did, please note your memorial gift was much appreciated and the Musketawa Trail board will put it to good use. Ed was a true trail enthusiast.”
