The Michigan DNR is currently in the planning and construction stages to completely rebuild the entire length of the Musketawa Trail.
We’re excited to share the news that the Musketawa Trail will get new pavement and upgrades. However, trail building (in this case, rebuilding) is very expensive. You, our faithful users and supporters, can do something to assist with this project. The Michigan DNR started work on the Ottawa County portion of the Musketawa Trail in early January 2025. This work will extend from the Marne (8th Avenue) trailhead through to Conklin St. in Ravenna. While this work is progressing, both the Marne and Conklin trailheads/parking lots will be closed with work expected to extend through all of 2025. Planned work includes tree trimming/removal, culvert replacement, bridge repair/replacement and rebuilding/resurfacing the trail (with asphalt at 10 feet wide). The Ravenna trailhead/parking lot will remain open during this construction with the trail to the east closed and the trail to the west open. Reconstruction of the remainder of the Musketawa Trail (Muskegon County section) will come at a later date as funds become available. Please respect any trail closures and posted signs.
Stay tuned for updates on this project both here and in our Friends newsletter. We look forward to seeing the below signage show up on the trail and what that process will do for the beautiful Musketawa Trail. Thank you for your continued support!
